I’m not sure if it’s too late to ask this but…How did your weekend go? Great? That’s what’s up! Not great? It could have been worse. I had an amazing weekend, attended a wedding, my church had a Christmas concert and I attended another Christmas concert, a theatrical carol actually. It was amazing!
Guyssss, I’ve seen the finale of Skinny Girl In Transit season 4. Sigh. Love is sweet oh lol. Don’t allow anybody tell you otherwise (I should actually be telling myself that but anyways…). Please watch the finale if you haven’t.
Enough gist already…
2017 is on its way out. It was a good year, had a few life experiences that taught me deep lessons. However, I’m glad the year is ending well. 2018 is going to be a good year, I can tell. I feel it in my heart, soul, mind, spirit lol. Basically, I know it’s going to be an amazing year which is why I’m writing to it or better still, I’m writing to myself in 2018 (not sure if that makes any sense as well but you get my point, yeah?)
I hope that your holidays were lit and so many good things happened. Anybody that knows me well knows I absolutely lovee the holiday season, especially Christmas. So you trust that it was awesome. I’m sorry that I was away for what seemed like forever to me, I needed stronger motivation and more inspiration. Guess what? We got this! LOL
Fast forward to what I’m sharing with you today… Few days ago, I had a conversation with my friend and he told me he was conscious of the speed at which the year is ageing already. I asked why and he said it just reminds him of things he planned to do in 2016 and did not achieve. Many of us are wearing the same shoes as my friend I suppose and are so conscious of how fast the year is ageing already we don’t even know how to go about achieving our set goals. While some of us also have made New Year Resolutions, we’re so overwhelmed as to how we’d go about achieving them. Continue reading →
Thanks for stopping by the blog today. I trust you’re doing great. Today’s blog post is quite sensitive and different from the ‘usual’ so…Enjoy!
Life is in phases and with each phase come challenges. Depression comes in when we allow these challenges overwhelm us. See, no challenge is insurmountable and mistakes are inevitable. Don’t beat yourself up over what’s happened. Life is short, I know that, but there’s still ample time to do what’s right!
A couple of weeks after my birthday, there were so many events that took place in my life all at once and it had me swimming in a pool of depression (thankful I didn’t drown in it) I’m not oblivious of the fact that people are going through tough times (this economy is more than enough hard time lol) however, there’s always a way out. A solution. A cure. A remedy. A therapy. Call it what you may.
So if you are depressed or you think that you are or about to, I’d be sharing symptoms then tips on how to come out of it (basically, what I did)
First, here are common symptoms that show you’re depressed (I feel like a Dr. right now so please call me Dr. Anie lol) Continue reading →
Thanks for stopping by the blog. I trust you’re doing great! I am too because…
Guess whose 1st anniversary or maybe in my own words ‘bloggiversary’ it is today? *drumroll*
Tall Girls Are Awesome!!!
Woohoo, my blog is one today!!! I’m super excited. It’s funny how my blog and Ishare the same birth month (PS: I didn’t plan for it to be this way lol). I even feel like a mother who has watched her child grow; from suckling on her breasts to talking, walking and growing teeth too! LOL
So, speech time guys *clears throat*
Wow! Tall Girls Are Awesome’s 1st year was an amazing journey. Blogging has taught me so much about myself, passion, growth, ownership and so much technical knowledge. All of the good times, funny posts, inspiring posts, not-so-good posts and the many challenges have taught me so much. I remember writing my first post in my office a year ago and I’m thinking “how time flies!”
I’m so grateful to God for the grace to write, for vision, speed and the confidence to birth the idea He gave me. Also for the awesome people around me who have supported and encouraged me till date. I’m so thankful for everything and everyone associated with Tall Girls Are Awesome. I’m thankful still for those who assisted me in setting up the blog; choosing designs/themes and even what hosting site to use,for those who read my first post and critiqued it, for those who have been commenting since the first post, for those who read my posts, for those who follow my blog here and on social media and for everyone who has been a part of my journey in big or small ways.I’m sincerely grateful for you and to you.My blog would not be where it is today without everyone of you.
Here’s a special shout out to my sister Nancy, my brand manager Jide Odi, Teniola for constantly giving me ideas on what to write on when I can’t think of any, Ekemini for every word of encouragement and those comments, thank you, Mfon for being such an amazing muse, my new friend Ekundayo for designing that picture you see up there, my mum, all of my friends who never forget to remind me how cool my blog is and to you, you and you for being awesome darlings. May God give you as much joy as you’ve brought me! God bless you guys…
I pledge to be more consistent, creative and more fun this new year. So help me God!
Thanks for stopping by the blog 🙂 I know that I’ve been AWOL for so long but hey, I’m back! For real I am, lol…with so much to talk about-the good and the bad. I’d start however by sharing the good news with you.
In my last post, I lamented about how stressful school was because I hadn’t secured accommodation on campus which meant me going from home on a daily basis (mehn, it wasn’t funny). Well, now I stay on campus..yay! And honestly, life has just been easier… I also spoke about how much I needed a laptop to be more consistent with blogging and do school work too. I DID GET A LAPTOP! It happened in the most miraculous way as I never even envisaged getting it as a gift, I know it must have been God and I’m so grateful…You see something eh, this taught me a major lesson: JUST BELIEVE. I was so troubled with how I hadn’t posted anything new on the blog in so long, I didn’t realize I have a father full of wonders and voila you’re reading a new post. Is there something you’re so encumbered about? Is there something you’re almost giving up on? Just believe darling!
And the next good news I’m super exited to tell you about is that… we now have a brand logo! Yayyy!!! I’d rather call it a header or better still, picture but my brand manager (you know yourself..lol) put the words ‘brand logo’ in my mouth.
There it is! What do you think about it? Feel free to let me know your thoughts in the comment box 😉 . I considered coming up with this a big project ‘cos I wanted it to be just the way I imagined it and I hope you like it as much as I do *smiles* (I danced when I saw it…haha, that’s how excited I was)
Yet another good news! I got nominated for the Liebster award by the amazing Mfon (Yas! she’s from my state too) You should check out her blog DaintyM . It is in 2 words: Simply beautiful, just in case you find yourself stuck on it! The Liebster Award is a way of encouraging new bloggers.
I call them ‘blogging freshmen’. A post on it is coming up soon where I’d be answering fun questions after which I’d also nominate other bloggers for the award, wait for it 😉 😉
Chroniclesofa UNILAG undergraduateIII
So guys, this is the third post in this series ‘Chroniclesofa UNILAGundergraduate‘ and each time I’m excited to write about my experiences in the University of Lagos, the school of first choice and the Nation’s pride (lol…say what you may, nothing can change that). Continue reading →
I’m so sorry that there has been no new post in soo long, it seemed like a while to me too *covers face*. Thanks to everyone who checked up on me asking why there were no latest posts, there is now..lol.. been so occupied with work and planning for the major event my NGO is organizing this December tagged ‘Bright Christmas’ (PS: Bright Christmas is a way to give back to the people by simply putting smiles on their faces and sharing with them the joy and the laughter that Christmas brings…soo that’s basically it) I hope you remember Christmas is only a month away *dancing*..lol. Don’t mind me..I know you do.
Todayyy, I’d be sharing with you what I finally decided to share after much thinking and pondering..There really was much thinking believe me, you want me to tell you? hmm? okay, I would..So this is pretty much how the conversation between me and TGAA, my blogger self went..
Me: OMG!! I haven’t put up a blog post in like forever
TGAA: You see, and there are so many things for you to blog about..
*flashback to the diary in which I wrote them down, picked it up and hurriedly flipped through the pages…there you are!*
Me: I can see them but it’s not just time yet..
TGAA: No post about relationships under ME-motions?
Me:Well…I just haven’t been in love lately..lol (couldn’t help but laugh at myself)
TGAA: Yes! How about that one topic that has always been on your mind to blog about
TGAA: That one now…
Me: *grumbles* I don’t….ooh! I do oh…but I’m still gathering momentum for that one…
TGAA: sigh..*feels defeated*
Me: *back to work*
That was a few days back but here I am now…
During the week, something happened..A friend who was once my tutor asked me to write a testimony for his website, basically about the tutorial and all..the things I learnt and the exam scores I got. I wore my thinking cap and reminisced on how I was before and after the period I attended the tutorial..picked up my computer and started to write.
In the end, it turned out to be a very lengthy one…Of all the many things I put down, one of them was how ‘The tutor’ always encouraged me..during the tutorials, I was a late comer, a noise maker, an ardent hater for anything that had to do with calculations so I abhorred Math and Economics. However, all these changed afterwards…how it happened I don’t know!
Under 3 months, all of that attitude changed.. I asked myself, why does ‘The tutor’ do all the things he does. He must have told himself he wanted to change the attitude of people like me who had just given up on a whole lot..he must have told himself that he wanted to change ‘hate’ to ‘love’, how he wanted to inspire and push others to doing great things…
So I asked myself, why do I do all of the ‘things’ I do? All the good and the bad..Do I do it for people to clap for me and sing my praises or for the reason behind why I do things to spur people on to doing even better things? Why do I sing? Why do I blog? Why do I go to church? Why do I choose to work with an NGO to effect social change via social media? Why do I make people laugh? (PS: I think I have become so funny so much so that I am compared to Bovi, a comedian in Nigeria..lol 😉 )
Why do you do all the “things” you do? Ask yourself this and carry out a self-examination…I’m still carrying out one on myself too.
Have a blessed weekend>>
Lots of love and chocolate,
“Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.” ~Ecclesiastes 9:10
Happy Monday! 😀 How’s the going been? The weekend’s over..mine went well, I tried to rest as much as I could..lol knowing another week was on its wayy.. Hoping you were also able to rest and enjoy yours too..
Today’s post is going to be short (not like I always have long posts..lol) so it’s ‘cos I’d just be sharing a quote I like from my favee, Maya Angelou which I would love for you to peruse on and get the wonderful message it carries… I’d share what I learnt at the end of this post.
It reads thus,
”We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty. There’s always a journey that shapes us and a process that graces us to achieve true beauty” ~ Maya Angelou
This quote just says a lot. What this quote made me realize is that every trial, tough phase or difficulty is a testing ground to the next level. In life, everyone goes through so many trying times but the most important thing is that we overcome and come out of it all with a different attitude to life, we come out stronger, better and a clearer understanding of why it happened. God knows the end of a thing from the beginning and being such a loving Father, he would not allow us His children go through phases and temptations we cannot overcome. There is just always that trying time we have to go through to really bring out the beauty and strength in us, helping you discover yourself the more.. Always see the best in every ugly situation!
So be strong, be positive, be happy, be thankful, keep praying and remember that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.. 😉
” And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” ~ Romans 8:28
I hope you’re doing awesome. It’s Tuesday already, work has been going on smoothly too..thanks! Misplaced a document I have been working on for days today and I almost cried, thinking about how to start composing a new one just made me weak but luckily for me I had shared it with my colleague at work so she searched for it and sent to me…yayy! I am so thankful..that’s today’s gist oh!
So I got inspired to share this with you after reading an amazing write up from one of the blogs I follow which just made me reflect on recent happenings in my life that maybe I just forgot to say ‘thank you’ for or some things I just overlooked and tagged as some normal stuff that’s just supposed to happen.. I’m thankful for..
The gift of life and Family… they’re just the best, all the love and laughter! Even after a very hard and rough day, the smiles on my mum’s face is more than a ‘welcome home baby’.. my siblings..all of them are just the funniest beings, we laugh at everything and anything..lol
Good health…The thought of how I haven’t had to take any drugs ‘cos I was under the weather or had to take ‘paracetamol’ ‘cos I had headaches or body aches crept into my mind of recent and I can’t but be thankful..even with all the ‘waka waka’ and bus conductor wahala..lol, which I wrote about in my last post.
Food..people who know me and my fam know this is an undisputed fact..we LOVE food, especially me..lol! We eat, have and cook every delicious meal you can think of and I am thankful to God for providing us with all we need..
Academic success.. sometime in June, I wrote an external exam to get into university. Everyone who knows JUPEB knows how competitive it is, I refused to fear(although i was at some point)..I am so thankful ‘coos when the results were released in September, I passed beyond my imaginations!! I was number 4 on the merit list *blushes*
Friends..I have the best friends, really! They can be so annoying most of the time but I still love them all the same ..always there to make me laugh, support me when I need them and tolerate me when I get silly and crack dry jokes..LOL (I sha know my jokes are funny)
Work..I have to thank God for work! It hasn’t been easy especially when you have to learn things from the scratch..lol. Today I can clap for myself and score myself when it comes to curating content, thinking fast and getting creative..The learning process has been fun, so many new experiences, new friends, new insight and understanding of life…I am thankful!
Church..We’ve been transferred! That’s right, we got a new posting to pastor another parish and I bless God for another opportunity to do His work and fulfill His purpose. There’s much work but He is with us..
I’m thankful for the gift of writing and blogging that has come to life in me..I am thankful for all those that followed, liked (PS: silent readers are acknowledged 😉 ) and commented, especially those whose comments kept me grinning from ear to ear; you know yourself..lol. Simply getting notifications that someone has liked or commented on my blog post is one of the things that make my day and keep me excited 😀
My sweetest ‘orobo’ sister is in JSS1 in the same school myself and siblings went to, that’s how daddy wanted it and she’s enjoying every bit of it.. she’s even class captain and she’s marching for the inter house sport too..lol
Music..and singing too, things that keep me bubbly all the time!
There’s so much to be thankful for and if I were to go on and on it would end up being a really long post..haha
So all said.. i agree there are bad times and good times still I try as much as I can to make gratitude my attitude ‘cos it just is one of the keys to living happily 🙂
What are you thankful for? Reflect on it. You don’t have to share with me, just pick a pen and sheet of paper and jot away…
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Wassa wassa? This week’s been pretty hectic but I thank God for it all, it’s over in the twinkle of a eye which brings me to the beginning of my countdown to the most wonderfulll time of the year- Christmas!!! Believe it or not…it is.
Things you have to do ‘cos you work in Lagos just popped up as I was on my way home yesterday oh, 07|10|15 from work (yeah, I intern at an NGO as a communications lead and social media manager..sounds interesting? it is but more work than fun..lol) and I decided to share it with my lovelies. So back to the gist, I had alighted from the bus I boarded at Ojota, the conductor did not have 50 naira change to give me and I did not have any other kobo on me to complete my journey home.
So I stood there, it was not only me oh..lol, we were like 5 people. As I was standing at the bus stop, my alter ego was like ”a whole big girl standing on the road with other people waiting for change..chai and she’s working oh” then I responded saying ”biko forget big girl and worker oh, shingbain no (no cash) dey my pocket oh. Eventually I was given 100 naira to split with another lady, she had change so she gave me and we both went our separate ways. I was already so pissed at the conductor that when it was time to cross, there were no smiles on my face as the road was extremely busy. I didn’t have the energy to use the bridge so crossing was the best bet for me *covers face*
Another thing you have to do ‘cos you work in Lagos asides having issues with the bus conductor is crossing the express road….in Lagos. Why? Because the cars don’t wait and you are not ready to wait. They want to speed off and you want to cross to the other side. In the case where you such a desperado like I was yesterday, you don’t even have time to waste; you just want to cross. So I found my way through the first lane as busy as it was, “whew”, I thought..lol. Left with two lanes, I crossed the next one with myself less than 1km before the cars…they were so close, I thank God for my life. As I crossed the last one, I couldn’t help but laugh at myself as I looked back at the eyes that feasted on me. I told myself, ”I’m so blogging about this”. They’re just some of the weirdest, out-of-my-comfort-zone kinda stuffs you have to do when you’re a hustler *shrugs*
But really, Lagos is one place you would enjoy. I have lived in Lagos all my life so when I tell you this please believe me, all the good, bad and ugly sides are just what make it the most fun place in the whole of Nigeria..lol. It has the best malls, markets, food joints, ‘owambes’..that’s right and all the trending things…come from Lagos! I hope you found this exciting as much as I did, as more about my Lagos work life experience would be coming in! Share with me too if you’ve had similar experiences *winks*
