Chronicles of a UNILAG undergraduate III

Hey there,

Thanks for stopping by the blog 🙂 I know that I’ve been AWOL for so long but hey, I’m back! For real I am, lol…with so much to talk about-the good and the bad. I’d start however by sharing the good news with you.

In my last post, I lamented about how stressful school was because I hadn’t secured accommodation on campus which meant me going from home on a daily basis (mehn, it wasn’t funny). Well, now I stay on campus..yay! And honestly, life has just been easier… I also spoke about how much I needed a laptop to be more consistent with blogging and do school work too. I DID GET A LAPTOP! It happened in the most miraculous way as I never even envisaged getting it as a gift, I know it must have been God and I’m so grateful…You see something eh, this taught me a major lesson: JUST BELIEVE. I was so troubled with how I hadn’t posted anything new on the blog in so long, I didn’t realize I have a father full of wonders and voila you’re reading a new post. Is there something you’re so encumbered about? Is there something you’re almost giving up on? Just believe darling!

And the next good news I’m super exited to tell you about is that… we now have a brand logo! Yayyy!!! I’d rather call it a header or better still, picture but my brand manager (you know yourself..lol) put the words ‘brand logo’ in my mouth.

There it is! What do you think about it? Feel free to let me know your thoughts in the comment box 😉 . I considered coming up with this a big project ‘cos I wanted it to be just the way I imagined it and I hope you like it as much as I do *smiles* (I danced when I saw it…haha, that’s how excited I was)

Yet another good news! I got nominated for the Liebster award by the amazing Mfon (Yas! she’s from my state too) You should check out her blog DaintyM . It is in 2 words: Simply beautiful, just in case you find yourself stuck on it! The Liebster Award is a way of encouraging new bloggers.

liebster award

I call them ‘blogging freshmen’. A post on it is coming up soon where I’d be answering fun questions after which I’d also nominate other bloggers for the award, wait for it 😉 😉

Self control..it’s a virtue!

Hello. It’s me…

Reminded you of Adele right?lol.. everyone loves that song and I suppose I do too 😉

How have you been? It’s been a while, I know I know and I’ve missed you too! I mentioned in a previous post that school registration was beginning soon and it did o..stressful it has been! It’s really taken its toll on me..thus today’s post!

One virtue I learnt during this period is self-control! I’m not a very patient person..nahh! I like things to happen fast, in my own way and if possible at my own time..lol but then I’ve learnt to control myself-particularly my emotions. I had to google the meaning of the word so I found this:

self-control
noun
  1. the ability to control oneself, in particular one’s emotions and desires, especially in difficult situations.
                 self control

Aha! …one’s emotions and desires, especially in difficult situations. There were some days I had been so stressed because of all the waka-waka from hall to bank to faculty and back to hall under the hottt sun that can boil yam and beans..lol.

E no funny o.

I would then get home and pour all the anger from hunger o, stress o ati gbo gbo e…on the person who comes to me first. This happened severally until I spoke to myself..yes ke, it was necessary! They were not the ones responsible for my being stressed out neither were they the ones who needed the school stuff to be done with. The best thing I told myself is..to exercise control! You may be angry or stressed or sad still, control yourself..put yourself in charge of your emotions and not the opposite!

self control the battle

The battle between oneself and one’s emotions..This is just the perfect illustration of what happens when you don’t let your emotions and desires take charge..but choose to control yourself!

So guess what? I prayed too.. 🙂 Yuup! I asked God to help me cos there’re so many things that cannot be handled by oneself..except He steps into the picture..

I’m still a Work-In-Progress, God’s not done with me yet..but I have to exercise the virtue of self-control! It’s also a fruit of the Spirit, the more reason you must possess it! Start work on yourself and ask God for help too..

Have a blessed weekend! 😀

Lots of chocolate,

Aniee

PS: Don’t hesitate to comment and share your thoughts/experiences if you’ve similar ones..that’s my oxygen 😉

“…make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.”

2 Peter 1:5-7

Positive mind, Positive vibes, Positive life..

Hey you,

AWESOME

Happy Monday! 😀 How’s the going been? The weekend’s over..mine went well, I tried to rest as much as I could..lol knowing another week was on its wayy.. Hoping you were also able to rest and enjoy yours too..

Today’s post is going to be short (not like I always have long posts..lol) so it’s ‘cos I’d just be sharing a quote I like from my favee, Maya Angelou which I would love for you to peruse on and get the wonderful message it carries… I’d share what I learnt at the end of this post.

It reads thus,

”We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty. There’s always a journey that shapes us and a process that graces us to achieve true beauty”                                                        ~ Maya Angelou

This quote just says a lot. What this quote made me realize is that every trial, tough phase or difficulty is a testing ground to the next level. In life, everyone goes through so many trying times but the most important thing is that we overcome and come out of it all with a different attitude to life, we come out stronger, better and a clearer understanding of why it happened. God knows the end of a thing from the beginning and being such a loving Father, he would not allow us His children go through phases and temptations we cannot overcome. There is just always that trying time we have to go through to really bring out the beauty and strength in us, helping you discover yourself the more.. Always see the best in every ugly situation!

So be strong, be positive, be happy, be thankful, keep praying and remember that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.. 😉

”  And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.”    ~ Romans 8:28

Have a God-led, favor-filled week ahead!

Lots of chocolate,

Aniee

Health 101: Fruits

Hey there!

I feel so good to be making yet another post. Blogging has been so much fun and it’s because of you, you and you! Yes,you! We’re counting down to the end of September! It’s been an amazing month, don’t you think so?

This post was birthed by the daily ‘gist'(PS: ”gist” means information) I get from my cousin, I call her Dr. Joe. She’s a Nutritionist and Dietitian in the making..ever since she got into school, she has learnt so much, taught everyone of us and even put into practice. So I say to myself, ”I have to blog about this”. I did my research and realized the benefits of eating fruits and vegetables cannot be overemphasized!

fresh+fruit+salad

I’d tell you what Dr. Joe told me then what I realized… Dr. Joe told me fruits are best taken 30 minutes before eating cooked meals.. ”WHAT!”, I thought. I wouldn’t even remember to take fruits before shoving several spoons of rice and stew down my throat or even ‘eba’..lol *sigh*…Well, she also said fruits are best eaten on an empty stomach, you knew that right? I had also heard about it but I had always believed that when fruits being acidic are eaten on an empty stomach, the stomach also being acidic; they begin to eat up your stomach walls *shrugs*. Dr. Joe says when fruits are ingested, they turn to ‘alkaline’ and aid food digestion!

What I realized…

  • Fruits contain nutrients that are vital for health and maintenance.
  • Fruits keep your eyes healthy.
  • Fruits are naturally low in calories so a fruit diet is just perfect. In fact, you should not go on a diet and exempt fruits. Make your diet FRUIT-rich! I actually intend to do that soon, go on a fruits and veggies only diet. Just I don’t know when and how possible that is..lol
  • Also realized that eating plenty of fruits may help reduce the risk of many diseases even as small as cold and catarrh. fruits

My Mum says it too sef that eating fruits is good for your skin, quoting her; ”it makes your skin look fresh”..lol. Now I believe her!(PS: I did before oh, but not 100% sha). By the way, fruits I enjoy eating now are watermelon, apple, orange and pineapple.

Just so you know, no single fruit or vegetable provides all of the nutrients you need to be healthy. EAT PLENTY EVERYDAY!

Lots of chocolate,

Aniee.

Before meets after..

Hey hey!

Ever wondered why you seem to remember vividly what happened 5, 10 or even 20 years ago? Well, it’s because that’s how our minds are designed.

It just simply means that our past affects our present and whatever we do now affects our future! Cool? What you did or failed to do is surely going to tell on what happens now which is why we really have to do it right NOW! You don’t want to grow up or have your children grow up and make the same mistakes. We learn from our mistakes and experiences, I know that but if you can prevent something from happening why let it happen? There so many mistakes I’ve made and I know you’ve made some too but we can’t let them stop us or slow us down, we gotta keep moving. I know of a friend who got pregnant even before getting into college but she had always wanted to go to school, complete her education and fulfill her dreams. So even with all the pain she went through, she gave birth to the baby and went back to school! She just didn’t let a bad ‘before’ stop her from having a good ‘after’. When I newly resumed my job, I was so inept having first time experience in a work environment. I had issues with my boss, issues so serious I was going to leave the job, but NO! I didn’t. Instead I remained and opened up to learning and in the process make mistakes no matter how much they hurt. Today, I’m enjoying every bit of it in less than 3 months. I did not let a bad ‘before’ affect a good ‘after’.

We only have power to re-create ourselves and not create ourselves, there are also certain decisions we need to make just to fix things up. It doesn’t matter if you didn’t do certain things right in the past, there’s still time and so much you can do to fix things up and all you have to do is to make frantic efforts to fix this up now so they don’t shift into to your ‘after’. Let a bad ‘before’ meet a good ‘after’!

Lots of chocolate,

Aniee.

Why I love…

Hey there!
Happy Friday!!!happy friday TGIF..Fridays are my favee days cos I know after it comes the weekend which is well, equivalent to rest and sleep *big smile*
Life is very lenient you know, it serves us well..giving us the things to love and hate, reasons to be happy and sad..the list goes on and on! I’d definitely share stuffs I dislike here too so don’t go too far *winks*

Why I love… Rahiel Tesfamariam. That’s right! Rahiel’s a black woman, a social activist, a youth advocate, writer and speaker or would I say preacher..she also founded an online lifestyle mag that just has its basis on urban culture, faith and social change..you see that she is not dulling..lol.

That's her
That’s her

Why I love…Rahiel Tesfamariam!
+ She’s black..a strong proof that black girls rock!
+She’s also an amazing writer.
+Also a believer..I cannot but be inspired!

Here’s an amazing piece she wrote which I still feel she took the words right out of my mouth..lol. Enjoy and be blessed!

What she told God…and His response

“She told God she wanted to fly. To escape every limitation placed on her from birth . To soar to places unimaginable to her ancestors. To reach for the stars and land on her dreams.

She told God she wanted to create. To build legacy and transform everything she touched. To inspire generations to come and to nurture the visions of prophets yet to be born. To generate change with her mere words.

She told God she wanted to love and trust unconditionally. To be the answer to every prayer he had ever prayed and the manifestation of every fantasy he had convinced himself would never come to pass. To be the breath of fresh air he had never sat still long enough to take in.

And God told her..her eyes had not seen nor ears heard what was to come for her”….

Lots of chocolate,

Aniee.
